Where we ate in Tokyo (and why you should go there or not)

 1. Torafugu, in Shimokitazawa

After about 12 hours on airplanes plus waiting time in the airports, we arrived in Tokyo, found a bus, a train, a metro line and our airBnB-apartment hidden in a street somewhere. Then we went for a walk down to this area called Shimokitazawa, looked around, went into a gallery and got a tips to go to this restaurant up the street.

The waiters didn't know much English, but they knew fish. Suddenly they came up to the table holding a plastic bag with water, and inside was an alive fish. They just wanted to show us some of the food available for dinner.

So we had some sushi (loved it!) and some cod roe (little special for our taste). So go here if you want really fresh, authentic fishy food. If your not really used to that, maybe go somewhere else.

 2. Tsujiki fish market

This market I wrote about here. But yeah, I don't really have the name of the restaurant - just walk around and sit down at one that looks nice. You probably won't be disappointed! I absolutely loved this fish bowl with rice and different fish and ginger.

3. Some Yakinuku("bbq")-place in Shinjuku

This! Just.. wow! The smell of grilled meat and sauces hits you before you get into this small restaurant in a street in Shinjuku. There was no room downstairs, but we were sent up this really small staircase, climbing up to the second floor where there was a small room filled with tables and chairs.

We tried many different dishes with meat, chicken, and vegetables. It was all SO GOOD. One of the best meals we have had so far on our trip.

4. A heart-food-place in Shirakawa

We met up with Mana after work in this area with less tourists and more locals. We went into this place which specialized in heart - so everything on the menu (almost) was heart in some shape. Surprisingly tasty! Really good mood with laughter and talking around the tables, nice staff and a good view.

5. Breakfast/lunch/bakery

In the morning before leaving Tokyo (to take the train to Kyoto), we wanted a good breakfast and stumbled into this perfect place in Shimokatazawa. They have all kinds of different pastries for take-away or sitting down. And I assure you, you would want to sit down at this place. They have some different breakfast sets to choose from, boiled egg, fresh orange juice, great coffee and salad and toast. The girl working there speaks English very well too, and they are all very friendly.
