Where we ate (and drank coffee) in Seoul

Thanks to our lovely friends, we got to experience the great, cool and delicious Korean table. I'm really grateful to have you Sul-Ki and Heejoon - taking us to places we would never find on our own, and helping us choose the best from every menu. And Sul-Ki's mom who cooked the best meals we have had in South Korea (but unfortunately she does not have a restaurant yet).

::: Reggae Chicken

WHERE: 147-18 Donggyo-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul

Apparently, fried chicken and beer has it's own word in Korean: chimaek. And who knew fried chicken could taste THIS amazing. I did not. This tiny bar/pub/restaurant(?) has a kind of Jamaican feel to it, and the girls said it reminded them of Hong Kong. Like true locals, we went here for beer and chicken before moving to a different place for some more food.

::: Le Pul

WHERE: 41-11 Jeongdong-gil, Jung-gu, Seoul, South Korea

With autumn colored yellow leaves raining from the trees covering the street outside, Le Pul felt like the perfect place for lunch, brunch or coffee. My Korean friend and café/restaurant-expert Heejoon, loves this place and goes here often to enjoy their colorful salads before going to the cinema to see a french movie. 

This is one of the best lunches we have had on our trip. JUST GO HERE if you want something delicious yet healthy and good for you. Their salads are music for the heart, and we couldn't help but to take a cookie to go on our way out, when they came warm out of the oven.

A little bit Italian, a little Korean, and 100% authentic and cosy atmosphere. Coming into this place feels a little like coming home after a long day: it is a warm, candle-lit and relaxing space with great food and wine. Here we tried the pizza which was original and thin and good, and some pasta and a Korean spicy dish.

::: Gwangjang market

THIS place is culture. Eating raw meat and octopus that is still curling and moving when served on the plate, is just one of those experiences you should not miss out on. Mix the traditional drink Soju with beer, and if you are lucky: share this moment with two Korean people who can tell you a lot about the many aspects and challenges of South Korean living. 

:::계절밥상 : Season's table

WHERE: 192-14 Gwanhun-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul

The guys from the start-up-company Liner took us here and introduced us to many delicious and different kinds of Korean dishes. Thank you for this great lunch experience! Here you can choose all good things from a big buffet with salads, meat, chicken, noodles, soups and dessert. Fried, cooked, raw, and with lots of different sauces - I am sure you will find something (or many things) you like! We were also lucky to get good help and explanations from these guys, and Chanmin especially, but you can just ask the staff there - they are probably helpful too :) 

:::Le Brunchic

WHERE: 524-37 Sinsa-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, South-Korea

All day breakfast and brunch - need I say more? Perfectly poached Eggs Benedict, juicy french toast mixed with bacon and scrambled eggs, and dreamy coffee. Or have a pasta, or one of the other delicious dishes. The style here is classy and the music is jazzy.

::: I am a burger

WHERE: 13 Wausan-ro 30-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul, South Korea

Yummy burgers in this small place - go here on one of those days were you really feel like eating something familiar. Their most popular one is the shrimp burger (on the first picture), but the classics were also great. AND Anette really liked the lemonade here.

::: Bills

WHERE: Sør-Korea, Seoul, Jongno-gu, 종로3길 17 D타워 4층

Here, some floors up inside a big building, you will find every kind of brunch. Apparently the "ricotta hotcakes" is the most popular dish here, but what we had was also delicious. 

We chose the sweet corn fritters, roast tomato, watercress, bacon and avocado salsa and the
"Full aussie" – free range scrambled eggs, organic sourdough toast, miso mushrooms, bacon, cumin roast tomato and chorizo.

Loved the atmosphere, reminded me of New York, even though I have never been there. Cosmopolitan mood, I think is a suitable description.

::: Helsinki

Our friend Sul Ki's favorite place for cakes and desserts, and I totally understand why. Located a half-hour metro-ride outside of Seoul city, in the area Bundang-gu, this charming place offers sweet temptations. Definitely go here if you live a little outside of the city centre (and it is cheaper to live a little outside too).
